While comparing UF to other purification techniques, such as RO and UV, UF membranes present a unique middle ground. Unlike RO, they do not use up water and do not remove valuable minerals. Unlike UV, they have an actual physical effect on microorganisms (they kill them) instead of deadening their effects. This renders UF safer to consume directly without the necessity for further purification.
